How much a virtual assistant from India costs

There is no single price, because the model changes what you pay for. In India, an executive assistant employed full time earns about ₹4.1 lakh a year on average, according to PayScale's self-reported data from July 2026. That is the person's salary, not the price you pay: agencies and platforms add their management, cover and margin.

Published agency prices show the gap with home-country hiring. Wishup, an agency, lists dedicated India-based assistants from $1,999 a month and US-based assistants at $5,400 a month. Employer of record services, which employ someone in India on your behalf, charge a monthly fee on top of the salary: Deel's starts at $599 and Remote's at $699 on monthly billing, and India's statutory contributions such as provident fund are added to the salary.

At home, the US median wage for secretaries and administrative assistants was $48,310 in May 2025, and benefits make up about 30% of what private employers spend on pay. In the UK, the National Living Wage is £12.71 an hour from April 2026, with employer National Insurance at 15% above £5,000 a year.

With a direct contractor, keep the arrangement what it is: agree outcomes and deadlines, not office hours and leave. Time zones: overnight work or a shared afternoon

India keeps the same clock all year. It is 4 hours 30 minutes ahead of the UK in British summer time and 5 hours 30 minutes ahead in winter, and 9 hours 30 minutes ahead of US Eastern time in summer and 10 hours 30 minutes in winter.

  • For UK and European businesses, an Indian working day overlaps with your morning, so questions get answered the same day.
  • For US businesses, work sent at the end of your day can be done overnight and waiting in the morning. Some assistants work late shifts to cover US hours.
  • In the weeks when only one side has changed its clocks, such as 25 October to 1 November 2026, the overlap moves by an hour. Check standing meetings then.

Our guide to UK and Europe to India shared working hours shows the overlap for each city.

Give access safely

  • Share logins through a password manager with sharing features, never by email or chat, and turn on multi-factor authentication for every account.
  • Give the lowest access that does the job: a delegate on your inbox, an editor on one folder, not an admin account.
  • Keep a list of what you shared, so you can switch it all off in one go when the work ends.
  • If the assistant will see customer data and you are in the UK or EU, you need a written processor agreement. Our cost and GDPR guide lists what to ask for.

How to hire, step by step

  1. List the tasks and the hours a week with the planner above, and mark what needs your approval.
  2. Write a one-page brief for each task, with an example of good work. Our brief builder puts it on one page.
  3. Ask two or three providers for a quote on that exact list, and ask who does the work and who covers for leave.
  4. Pay for a short test task, the same one for everyone, and compare the results side by side.
  5. Start with a two-week trial, check every piece of work, then hand over more as the quality holds.
  6. Pay by a transfer service that shows the exchange rate and fees up front, against a monthly invoice.

HerWorkCircle is a managed team of women across India who handle office admin, research, data checking and written support. You agree the tasks, the quality measure and the price with us; our team checks every piece before it reaches you, and covers leave. Send a brief for a free 20-minute call and a clear price for a trial.
