Schemes for women · Mizoram

Government schemes for women in Mizoram, from Bana Kaih loans to the widow pension

Short answer

Mizoram's big help for women who want to earn is Bana Kaih, whose Phase III opened on 18 September 2026: repay a business loan of up to ₹50 lakh on time and the state covers the interest, or take a grant of up to ₹50,000 if borrowing isn't possible. Widows aged 40 and over draw ₹1,300 monthly, thanks to a ₹1,000 state top-up.

Bana Kaih in 2026: a loan, not a gift

  • Phase III opened on 18 September 2026. Apply on the Bana Kaih (Handholding) portal, through the department that matches your work.
  • The state pays the interest on bank loans of up to ₹50 lakh, as long as you repay on time. You still repay the loan itself.
  • Who can apply: Mizoram residents aged 18 to 60, not in a full-time government job. Self-help groups can apply as a group.
  • CM Special Package: a grant of not more than ₹50,000 for people who can't take a loan. The 2025 Governor's address said ₹1 lakh; the newer guidelines say ₹50,000.
  • Women are taking part: 140 of the first 517 partners in the pilot were women.

₹50 lakh is the loan ceiling, not a grant. Anyone promising a free ₹50 lakh under Bana Kaih is wrong.

Jobs: registration and training

  1. Register on EmpEx, Mizoram's employment portal, for a ₹20 service charge with your name and phone number. A Common Service Centre charges ₹30 more.
  2. Women with disabilities can take a one-year tailoring course with a ₹700 monthly stipend and a sewing machine at the end.
  3. Educated unemployed people with disabilities registered at the Special Employment Exchange get ₹3,000 a year.

Mizoram has no general unemployment allowance and no free bus for women, and we found no women's quota in state government jobs.

It is a loan, not a gift. Only 'Targeted' Progress Partners picked by the state get the full interest repayment and loan cover; General Progress Partners do not. In the pilot phase 140 of 517 selected partners (27 per cent) were women, per the Chief Minister in February 2025 (news). The document list is my reading of what a bank asks for; the guidelines do not list documents in the part I read.
