The ₹2,500 pensions: what is true now

  • ₹2,500 a month for widows and for destitute women, the rate since April 2018. It goes into your bank account.
  • Who can apply: a woman who has lived in the islands for at least 10 years and whose own income is below ₹48,000 a year.
  • Keep it coming: give a life certificate every year through your Anganwadi worker, and tell the Directorate within 15 days if your income goes up.
  • No raise yet. In 2025 leaders asked for ₹5,000 a month; no order had come by October 2026.

Websites that say the islands pay widows ₹1,500 are wrong. Apply only through your CDPO office; the form is free.

Work: training, loans and home stays

  1. Trade training: the Directorate of Industries trains you free for a year at Sri Vijaya Puram, Diglipur, Hut Bay or Car Nicobar. The 2026 to 27 forms closed on 15 July 2026. It also runs short courses, such as 3 months of tailoring for women.
  2. ANIIDCO loans: 75% of a project up to ₹10 lakh and 66% above that, repaid over up to 10 years. It is a loan, not a grant, and above ₹2 lakh you need collateral.
  3. Home stays: the October 2026 rules give a Silver or Gold approval for 3 years, a place in the Tourism directory and household rates for property and water tax.
  4. SARATHINI free car driving training for women has had no batch since September 2025. The form is still on the Transport Department site.

We found no unemployment allowance and no women's quota for Administration jobs in the islands.

Fake schemes going around

These were checked and found false. A real scheme never asks you to pay to register, and never comes only as a WhatsApp link. If you lost money, call 1930 or report it at cybercrime.gov.in.

  • Fake"The A&N widow pension is ₹1,500 a month, for income up to ₹1 lakh"

Wrong on both counts. It is ₹2,500 a month, and her income must be below ₹48,000 a year. Andaman and Nicobar Administration

  • FakeA "Women SHG Empowerment Scheme 2026" gives a ₹10,000 seed fund and interest-free loans up to ₹1 lakh

No such UT scheme exists. Self-help groups in the islands are supported through the rural livelihood mission (ANIRLM). Andaman and Nicobar Administration

  • Fake"Women ride government buses free in the islands"

There is no concession for women. Free or half fare passes are for people aged 60 or more, people with disabilities and freedom fighters. Directorate of Transport, A&N Islands

More fake schemes, checked for all of India, are on the schemes page.
