Mahtari Vandan in 2026: what is true now

  • ₹1,000 a month, by direct transfer to your own Aadhaar-linked bank account. The 32nd instalment, ₹632.40 crore to 67,38,217 women, was released at Durg on 8 October 2026. The 2026-27 budget keeps ₹8,200 crore for it.
  • Who can get it: married women, widows, and divorced or deserted women living in Chhattisgarh, aged 21 or more. Unmarried women are not covered.
  • There is no upper age and no income limit in the official rules. Sites that say "23 to 60" or "income under ₹2.5 lakh" are wrong.
  • Not eligible if anyone in the family pays income tax, has a Class 1, 2 or 3 government job (permanent, temporary or contract), is a current or former MP or MLA, or heads a government board or corporation.
  • If you get a pension under ₹1,000 a month, Mahtari Vandan tops it up to ₹1,000.

New registration is closed. The government told the Assembly in July 2025 there would be no new registration; in August 2026 the minister said reopening was approved, Bastar division first, but no date has been announced by 9 October 2026. The only portal is mahtarivandan.cgstate.gov.in.

Jobs: registration, training and the 30% quota

  1. Register on e-Rojgar. It is free and Aadhaar-based, and gets you into district job fairs. Over 13 lakh job seekers are registered.
  2. Pick a course through CSSDA, the state skill authority, from about 230 job-linked courses. Ask the training provider about any fee in writing.
  3. Claim the women's quota in government job forms. 30% of posts at direct recruitment are kept for local women, inside each category, under the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Special Provision for Appointment of Women) Rules, 1997. Widows and divorced women get preference.
  4. Starting a business? Under the Industrial Development Policy 2024-30, new micro and small units owned by women can get margin money of up to 25% of the project cost. Ask your District Trade and Industries Centre.

Berojgari Bhatta, the ₹2,500 unemployment allowance, was paid only from April to November 2023 and is not being paid now. Chhattisgarh has no free bus travel for women.

Mahtari Vandan Yojana

Closed to new

Also called Mahatari Vandan, Mahtari Vandana Yojana, Mahtari Vandan 1000, Mahtari Vandan 12000, महतारी वंदन योजना, Mahtari Vandan instalment, Mahtari Vandan new registration

₹1,000 a month (₹12,000 a year) straight into her bank account. A woman who already gets a pension of less than ₹1,000 a month gets the difference added.

Chhattisgarh pays ₹1,000 every month to married women aged 21 or more. Widows, divorced women and women deserted by their husbands can also get it. About 67 lakh women are paid each month.

Status
Paying every month in 2026: the 32nd instalment (₹632.40 crore to 67,38,217 women) was released on 8 October 2026 at Durg. The portal is closed to new applicants: the minister told the Assembly in July 2025 there was no new registration, and in August 2026 she said the Chief Minister had approved reopening (Bastar division first) but no date was announced. Checked 9 October 2026.
Who can apply
  • A married woman who lives in Chhattisgarh (a widow, a divorced woman or a deserted woman also counts)
  • She must be 21 years old or more on 1 January of the year she applies. The official rules set no upper age limit
  • No one in her family pays income tax. The rules define family as husband, wife and their dependent children
  • No one in her family is a Class 1, Class 2 or Class 3 officer or employee (permanent, temporary or on contract) of a central or state government department, undertaking, board or local body
  • No one in her family is a current or former MP or MLA
  • No one in her family is a current or former chairman or vice-chairman of a central or state government board, corporation or mandal
  • The money goes to a bank account in her own name that is linked to her own Aadhaar and enabled for DBT; a joint account does not work
  • The official rules set no family income limit and no ration card condition
Documents
  • Self-attested passport size photo
  • Proof of local residence (residence certificate, ration card or voter ID)
  • Her own Aadhaar card and her husband's Aadhaar card
  • PAN card of herself and her husband, if they have one
  • Marriage certificate, or a certificate from the gram panchayat or local body
  • Husband's death certificate, if she is a widow
  • Certificate from the society, ward or gram panchayat, if she is deserted
  • Any one of: birth certificate, class 10 or 12 marksheet, transfer certificate, PAN card, voter ID or driving licence
  • Bank account details with a copy of the passbook
  • Self-declaration or affidavit (attached to the form)
How to apply
  1. Do not apply yet: new applications are closed. Wait for an official announcement from the Women and Child Development Department
  2. When it reopens, the official rules say the form is free of cost. It can be filled by herself on the portal or app (OTP based), or at her anganwadi centre, gram panchayat, ward office or the child development project office
  3. If you already applied, check your application and payment status on the portal under 'application and payment status'
  4. If a payment is stuck, check that your Aadhaar is linked to your own bank account and that e-KYC is done

In person: Anganwadi centre, gram panchayat or ward office, child development project office (for status help and, when it reopens, applications)

Run by
Women and Child Development Department, Government of Chhattisgarh

Most websites you will find still say 'apply now'. They are wrong: the official portal has not taken new registrations since early 2024, apart from a one-time drive in 2025. The widely quoted age range of 23 to 60 and a ₹2.5 lakh income limit do not appear in the official rules: the rule is 21 or more, with no upper age and no income limit. Unmarried women are not covered. Families of Class 4 staff are not excluded by the rules, but families with any Class 1, 2 or 3 employee are. Beneficiaries who did not finish e-KYC or whose Aadhaar and bank do not match have had instalments held back (about 9,000 women in Mahasamund district missed the July 2026 instalment).

In person: Gram panchayat, urban body (municipal corporation, municipality or nagar panchayat) or janpad panchayat

Run by
Social Welfare Department, Government of Chhattisgarh

₹350 a month is small. Several websites say ₹500 or ₹600; that is the central widow pension, not this scheme. In Raipur in June 2026 the central-scheme widow pension was 5 to 6 months late (state share), while state schemes such as Sukhad Sahara were reported paid up to April 2026. Women aged 40 to 79 who are BPL widows should also ask about the central Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme. The Social Welfare Department site (sw.cg.gov.in) refused connections from our checks, so the amount comes from an official district government page; confirm at your local office.

A 2023 scheme to pay ₹2,500 a month to educated unemployed youth aged 18 to 35. It is not open for new applicants now and is not paying, so do not pay anyone who offers to enrol you.

Status
No allowance has been paid since November 2023 (the scheme paid only from April to November 2023). The application portal has been reported closed since the change of government, and the 2026-27 budget highlights list no allowance. The government has not formally announced it is scrapped. Checked 9 October 2026.

  • Lives in Chhattisgarh, aged 18 to 35 on 1 April of the year of application
  • Passed class 12 from a recognised board
  • Registered with a district employment centre in Chhattisgarh, with the registration at least 2 years old on 1 April of that year
  • No personal income and family income not more than ₹2,50,000 a year

  • A person who refuses a job or self-employment offer loses the allowance
Documents
  • The official page does not list documents; the scheme asked for online application only
How to apply
  1. Do not apply now: the application portal is reported closed and no payments are being made
  2. Keep your employment registration (e-Rojgar) renewed, since it is a condition if the scheme restarts
  3. Watch erojgar.cg.gov.in for any notice

In person: District employment and self-employment guidance centre

Run by
Department of Employment and Training (Labour), Government of Chhattisgarh

Many websites titled '2026' say ₹2,500 is being paid. That is not true: the official page itself describes only April to November 2023 payments (peak 1,35,440 young people in September 2023). In the Assembly the Deputy Chief Minister reported 778 beneficiaries in 2023-24 and none in 2024-25, and a BJP MLA said a policy was being framed. In the winter session of 2025 the opposition walked out over the issue, and the government pointed to job fairs instead.

  • The group has worked actively for at least 1 year and has 10 to 20 women members
  • A live savings bank account in a nationalised bank, run by at least 2 members
  • Members have a habit of repaying within the group
  • The group can ask for a new loan one month after fully repaying the first one
Documents
  • The group's bank account details and group records; ask your anganwadi worker for the case file list. The department guideline file is at https://cgwcd.gov.in/assets/pdf/sakhi/F-09%20Rine%20yojna.pdf
How to apply

Two department pages give slightly different tenures for repayment (24 equal instalments for the first loan up to ₹1 lakh on one page; instalments from 24 up to 60 on the other, longer for larger loans). Ask the district office for the sanction letter terms before signing. It is a loan and must be repaid.

Bihan (Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihoods Mission): SHG funds and Lakhpati Didi push

Open

Also called Bihan SHG, Chhattisgarh SRLM, Lakhpati Didi Chhattisgarh, NRLM Chhattisgarh, revolving fund SHG Chhattisgarh, बिहान

For a self-help group: a revolving fund of ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 and a Community Investment Fund of up to ₹2,50,000 (national mission rates), plus bank loans and training

Rural women join a self-help group formed under Bihan. The group gets start-up money, bank loans and training, and the mission pushes members to reach a family income of ₹1 lakh a year, called a Lakhpati Didi.

Status
Running in 2026 as the state arm of the national rural livelihood mission: in January 2026 the state said 4,94,425 women had become Lakhpati Didis in two years, aiming for 10 lakh. Women join through a self-help group, not by applying alone. Checked 9 October 2026.
Who can apply
  • A poor rural woman who joins or forms a self-help group under the mission
  • Funds go to the group (and its federation), not to a woman as an individual
  • 'Lakhpati Didi' means an SHG member whose household income is at least ₹1 lakh a year; it is a result of the mission, not a separate scheme
Documents
  • Each group needs a group savings bank account; the Bihan site does not publish a document list
How to apply
  1. Ask your gram panchayat or the Bihan block office about a self-help group in your village, or how to form one
  2. Join the group and begin regular savings and meetings
  3. The group asks the mission and the bank about the revolving fund, Community Investment Fund and bank loan once it qualifies

In person: Bihan block office or gram panchayat; State Mission office phone 0771-2512395

Run by
Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (Bihan), Panchayat and Rural Development Department

The ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 and ₹2,50,000 figures are the national mission's rates from a Lok Sabha reply; the Bihan site does not publish Chhattisgarh's own amounts, so ask the block office what your group can receive. Figures for Lakhpati Didis conflict: the Deputy Chief Minister said 4,94,425 in January 2026, while a news agency report in September 2026 said 13.85 lakh women had entered the Lakhpati Didi category. We do not know why the two differ. Bihan is the state arm of a central mission, so it is shown here as a state mission, not as a new state scheme.

For a woman who starts a new factory, service business or startup in Chhattisgarh. It is for real businesses with a project cost, not for small household income support.

Status
In force from 1 November 2024 to 31 March 2030 (the state has amended it, so check the latest text); startups apply on the state startup portal and to the state-level startup committee. Checked 9 October 2026.
Who can apply
  • A woman who is a domicile of Chhattisgarh and has set up or proposed the enterprise
  • For a partnership firm, company, cooperative or society, at least 51% of partners, shares or members must be women of the state
  • At least 50% of the managerial, skilled and unskilled staff must be women (the woman owner herself is not counted in these groups)
  • The margin money subsidy covers new micro and small enterprises, for a project cost up to ₹10 crore for goods, and up to ₹1 crore for the service-sector line
  • Startups of women entrepreneurs get 10% additional subsidies and a one-year extension on exemptions
Documents

  2. Register your enterprise and file the incentive application with the District Trade and Industries Centre, or for startups through the startup portal
  3. Startup cases are approved by the State Level Startup Promotion Committee; for help call 0771-3101500 or write to startup.cg@gov.in

In person: District Trade and Industries Centre (DIC); Directorate of Industries, Udyog Bhavan, Telibandha, Raipur

Run by
Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Chhattisgarh

These are business incentives, mostly paid after you invest, so you need your own money or a bank loan first. Two summaries on the web give different numbers for the margin money limit and fixed capital subsidy; the figures here come from the English policy notified on 28 February 2025. The policy was amended in 2025 and January 2026, so check the latest text. The state also runs a ₹50 crore startup fund with a ₹5 lakh seed fund, ₹3 lakh operations fund and ₹3 lakh continuous operations fund (not women-only).

Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance (through banks, NBFCs and MFIs; MUDRA Ltd refinances)

MUDRA Ltd itself never lends to individuals. PIB Fact Check has flagged fake 'Mudra loan approval letters' asking for fees almost every month from 2024 to September 2026. The loan must be repaid with the bank's normal interest; there is no subsidy.

Open

Also called PMEGP loan, KVIC loan subsidy, margin money subsidy

Helps a person start a new small factory or service unit outside farming. The bank gives the loan and the government pays part of the project cost as a one-time subsidy. Women count as a special category, so they get the higher subsidy and put in only 5% of their own money.

It is a subsidy on a bank loan, not a grant: you must get a bank loan and put in 5% (special category) or 10% (general) yourself.
