The promises for women: what has started and what has not
| Promise | Status in October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Free bus travel for women (Mahalakshmi) | Running since 9 December 2023 |
| ₹2,500 a month for women (Mahalakshmi) | Not started. No money for it in the 2026-27 budget |
| Pensions raised to ₹4,000 | Not done. Widows and single women still get ₹2,016 |
| Unemployment allowance, ₹4,000 a month | Not given, and not in the budget |
Sites saying the ₹2,500 "launched on 2 June 2026, apply at MeeSeva" are wrong. Never pay an agent or share an OTP for it.
New in 2026: free sewing machines for BC women (the window closed on 30 September 2026), and a higher interest-free loan limit for self-help groups, up to ₹10 lakh. Rajiv Yuva Vikasam took about 16 lakh applications in 2025, but no loans had been paid by August 2026.
