You are
Is your name written as head of the family on your ration card?
Are you in a self-help group?
Are you registered with the employment exchange?
Does anyone in your family pay income tax?
Does anyone in your family have a government job?

Answer two or more questions and your list appears here. Showing schemes for Karnataka and all of India.

Jobs: the employment exchange, the women's quota and the allowance

Three things help a woman in Karnataka who is looking for a job, and all three are free.

  1. Register with the employment exchange. Do it online on the Kaushalkar Skill Connect portal with your mobile number, or at your District Employment Exchange. Keep your registration number and renew it every 3 years.
  2. Claim the women's quota in every government job form. In state government direct recruitment, a share of posts in every category (General Merit, SC, ST and each backward class group) is kept for women. Posts women don't fill go to men of the same category.
  3. Claim Yuva Nidhi if you have a degree or diploma from 2023 to 2026 and no job for 180 days: ₹3,000 a month with a degree, ₹1,500 with a diploma, for up to 2 years.

Most state government jobs are filled through KPSC, KEA and department exams, which need their own application. Registering with the exchange doesn't apply for them for you.

The women's quota is set by Rule 9(1B) of the Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules, 1977. The department's own rules page still lists the 1996 amendment at 30%; the state raised it to 33% in 2015, and a 2022 High Court judgment quotes the rule at 33%. Check the figure printed in each recruitment notice.

Before you apply: three things that stop payments

  • Your bank account must be linked to your Aadhaar. Gruha Lakshmi and Yuva Nidhi are paid only into an Aadhaar-linked account.
  • For Gruha Lakshmi, you must be the head of the family on the ration card. If your mother-in-law is the head, only she can get it. The Food and Civil Supplies Department changes the head on the card.
  • For Yuva Nidhi, declare every month by the 25th. A missed declaration means that month isn't paid.

Payments can be late. In December 2025 the Women and Child Development Minister told the Assembly that the February and March 2025 Gruha Lakshmi instalments were never released, so a gap for those two months is not a problem with your account. You can see every payment on the Gruha Lakshmi DBT tracker.
