What changed in 2026
A new government took office after the April 2026 election and presented a revised budget on 19 June 2026. For women, that meant:
- Sthree Suraksha (₹1,000 a month) is paused. It paid for February and March 2026. On 22 June 2026 the Chief Minister told the Assembly no decision had been taken on it. Keep your K-SMART acknowledgment safe in case it restarts.
- Free bus travel for women on KSRTC ordinary buses (Priyadarshini) has run since 15 June 2026.
- ₹1,000 a month for women college students has been announced, but no rules or portal exist yet. Don't pay anyone to register you.
- The welfare pension is still ₹2,000 a month. A rise to ₹3,000 was promised but hasn't happened as of September 2026.
- A plan to bring 10,000 women back to work after a career break has been reported, with no official portal yet.
Jobs: the employment exchange, DWMS and the allowance
- Register on the employment portal (eemployment.kerala.gov.in). It is free, and it is needed for SARANYA and the unemployment allowance.
- Show your original certificates at your exchange within 90 days, or you lose the seniority from your online date.
- Renew every 3 years. If yours lapsed between October 2024 and June 2026, the portal's Special Renewal can restore it until 31 October 2026.
- Sign up on DWMS (the Knowledge Economy Mission's job portal) for free career guidance, English and work-readiness training, and job fairs.
Kerala has no general quota for women in government jobs. Kerala PSC fills posts by community rotation; some posts, such as Woman Police Constable, are notified for women only.
Kerala's unemployment allowance is still ₹120 a month, set in 1982, and needs 3 years on the register and a family income under ₹12,000 a year. For most women, SARANYA, Kudumbashree and DWMS will help far more.

Helps a person start a new small factory or service unit outside farming. The bank gives the loan and the government pays part of the project cost as a one-time subsidy. Women count as a special category, so they get the higher subsidy and put in only 5% of their own money.

Questions
I got Sthree Suraksha twice and then it stopped. Was I removed?
Probably not. Payments stopped for everyone after March 2026. The new government has not said when, or whether, it will pay again.
Can I get Sthree Suraksha and the widow pension together?
No. Sthree Suraksha was only for women with no other social security pension. The widow pension is ₹2,000 and still paying, so it is the better one if you qualify.
I registered on the employment portal. Am I done?
No. Within 90 days, show your original certificates at the exchange, or you lose the seniority from your online date. After that, renew every 3 years.
My employment registration lapsed. Can I get my seniority back?
If your renewal fell due between October 2024 and June 2026, use the Special Renewal option on eemployment.kerala.gov.in before 31 October 2026.
I am a widow and want to start a tailoring unit. What can I get?
SARANYA: an interest-free loan of up to ₹50,000, and half of it (up to ₹25,000) is never repaid. You must be on the employment exchange register, with family income of ₹1 lakh a year or less.
Do Kerala government jobs have a quota for women?
No. Kerala PSC uses community rotation, with no general women's quota. Some posts are notified for women only.
Can I join Kudumbashree if my mother-in-law is already a member?
Only one woman per family can be a neighbourhood group member. Women aged 18 to 40 can join an Auxiliary Group even if someone in the family is already a member.
Is the ₹1,000 for college girls open yet?
No. It has been announced, but no rules or portal have been published. Don't pay anyone to register you.
